DISC

You know that boss or co-worker or teacher that you can't stand being around?  How about your friend's husband or boyfriend that you really don't like?  Chances are his or her behavior style is different from yours.

The DISC Behavior Style Indicator not only describes your behavior (how you get energized), it also helps you get a better understanding of the people who will be a challenge for you to get along with.  And it helps you know how to get along with them better.

The four behavior areas that are evaluated are your approach to problems, people, pace and procedure.

Individuals can approach problems in a direct or dominant way (D).  Their interactions with people can be influential and interactive (I).  The pace of their day can be stable and steady (S).  And their approach to procedures can be compliant and cautious (C).  People typically have one or two areas that are higher than the others, which is where a description is derived (for example, a “high ‘D’ and a high ‘C’”).  Areas that are low are equally relevant in understanding behavior style.

People who change their behavior a lot when they go to work usually experience a lot of stress.  They are at a higher risk for developing job burn-out or stress-related health problems.

The DISC behavior profile is an excellent tool to understand what energizes you, what types of people you will get along with easily, and how to get along with those who are different from you.  It's an excellent tool to help you identify where you get stressed out at work, why your current work setting might not be a good fit for you, and what types of settings will fit better.

BUSINESS VALUES MOTIVATORS (BVM)

Not sure exactly what you want to do when you "grow up?"  Want to get a better idea of where your passions are and what types career choices will be most satisfying to you?

The BVM assesses the values that motivate you to do what you do.  There are six areas considered: Conceptual (a need to learn as much as possible and a desire to solve problems), Aesthetic (a need for balance and harmony in the environment), Economic (a high return on investment of time, energy or money), Power and Authority (a desire to be in control of my own destiny and be in authority over others), Social (a fundamental need to be helpful to others), and Doctrine (a strong adherence to a personal belief system).  We all fall somewhere on a continuum in each of these areas.  The areas where you are the highest are most motivating and will be most fulfilling.

People typically have two primary motivators.  It is important to identify what motivates you to determine what career choices will fulfill your passions and enable you to sleep peacefully at night.

Want to find out what your passions are?  Take the BVM.

PREVUE

How does your personality affect your career choice?  Understanding your personality helps you know what areas will be most challenging for you with any job you choose.  While we can adjust our behavior style when we go to work (even though it causes stress to do so), we cannot change our personalities.

The Prevue assessment evaluates a continuum of personality functioning in five dimensions - Independence, Conscientiousness, Extroversion, Stability and Openness to Change.

Competitiveness and Assertiveness are components of Independence. Organized is a component of Conscientiousness, and so is being open or closed to change (Conventional).  Extroversion takes into account how much you need to be around others (Group-Oriented) and how comfortable you feel interacting with others (Outgoing).  How focused you remain during stress (Poised) and how comfortable you feel with stress (Relaxed) comprise the Stability scale.

If you have a cooperative personality you probably won't enjoy a highly competitive envirionment.  If you thrive on change a conventional environment that sticks to established procedures will frustrate you.  If you really need others to like you and you love to talk about yourself sales might be a challenge.  If you over-react to conflict and stress working in a high stress career will wear you down.

Knowing how your personality works will provide you with important information to make the best career choice.

Job Clues

Choose Your Next Employer.  Most career reports provide general feedback on what type of career might be a good fit for you. This report goes further in that it actually points out things you should look for when making a career choice.

Interview a Prospective Employer.  This report is intended to provide specific questions for you to ask your prospective employer, so that you can determine if the environment, management style and reward systems are a good fit for you based on your core traits and learning style. There are many more questions listed than you will typically have time for in an interview. It is a good idea to review these and highlight the ones that you believe will be the most important for you to know prior to making a decision.

Leadership Evaluation and Self Development.  See how your personality traits compare to others who have been both successful in leadership roles and found them rewarding. The report is divided into various behavioral areas and within each you will find tips provided to help you develop your skills in that area. If you find that there are several areas where your traits do not particularly match up well with typical leadership traits, it may be an indication that you might find leadership roles to be overly stressful and less rewarding over time.
